{"id":52,"date":"2016-09-08T06:29:59","date_gmt":"2016-09-08T06:29:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jreimer.com\/frederick\/?page_id=52"},"modified":"2016-09-08T06:29:59","modified_gmt":"2016-09-08T06:29:59","slug":"broken-wing-by-will-reimer","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/jreimer.com\/frederick\/broken-wing-by-will-reimer\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Broken Wing&#8221; by Will Reimer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>Broken Wing<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Often we see those with infirmity as weak,<br \/>\nNeeding our sympathy and concern.<br \/>\nBut do we really see what\u2019s beneath,<br \/>\nIs it strength that lies beneath the infirm.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We sorrow and weep over their disease,<br \/>\nNot thinking what it is like to live in their skin.<br \/>\nFrustration and resentment sometimes creep in,<br \/>\nWe even feel sorry that we are their kin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But when we ponder their place in our life,<br \/>\nDo we see clearly what their infirmity brought?<br \/>\nDid we not see that in all of the distress,<br \/>\nThe strength we shared could not have been bought?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The life that is difficult is not to be sorrowed,<br \/>\nBut celebrated for what it brought into our world.<br \/>\nFor they are much more than their infirmity to us,<br \/>\nReaching into our soul our love was unfurled.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Do we really see the person inside,<br \/>\nOr do we only see what the infirmity hides?<br \/>\nDo we see the desires the soul lit on fire,<br \/>\nOr the dreams that within their heart abides?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Too often I have seen only the thing I detest,<br \/>\nAnd wonder how any spirit could do this to someone.<br \/>\nBut then when I peal back the layers of skin,<br \/>\nWas it him or us that made him undone?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Fred had passion and pride,<br \/>\nHe had love for a joke.<br \/>\nHe wanted to sore with eagles,<br \/>\nAnd not wear his burdensome yoke.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I wonder today as we lay him to rest,<br \/>\nDid we really know him under his skin?<br \/>\nHow do we mourn someone we might not have known,<br \/>\nPerhaps we lost out, that would be a sin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">He saw Nashville and Hawaii,<br \/>\nAnd in bowling won a trophy.<br \/>\nHe tried snowboarding and diving,<br \/>\nAnd tried driving a car, which, well, was not holy!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We often don\u2019t see what he did get to do,<br \/>\nHe travelled and was able to work many years.<br \/>\nSo today we want to see Fred for the good things in life,<br \/>\nIf we add them all up, perhaps we shed happy tears.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">So if I see the world, though his eyes not mine,<br \/>\nI can understand that he was perhaps luckier than most.<br \/>\nI see someone who loved us without a doubt,<br \/>\nSo let\u2019s raise our glasses, to Fred give a toast!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">A bird on the wind he sores evermore,<br \/>\nNo more broken wing to keep him on the ground.<br \/>\nSinging a song of freedom, he can dance on the wind,<br \/>\nNo doubt happiness and joy he has found.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We will not regret any more his sorrow,<br \/>\nWe will celebrate what he brought through his struggle and strife.<br \/>\nWe will share our blessed memories of times immortal,<br \/>\nWe will not mourn our loss, but thank god for his life!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Will Reimer<\/em><br \/>\nSeptember 6, 2016<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Broken Wing Often we see those with infirmity as weak, Needing our sympathy and concern.
